Evidently, Leighton Meester was supposed to be in the Veronica Mars movie that is currently in production, but one of ’em pesky scheduling conflicts is keeping the Gossip Girl actress from reprising her role as Neptune High mean girl Carrie Bishop.
Further making this a bittersweet bit of news: Carrie is to play a major part in the movie’s plot.
“One of the reasons I wanted Leighton, beyond her talent, beauty/history in the show, was that we needed a performer who could sing in this important role,” said Rob Thomas, Veronica Mars’ creative father and the movie’s director. “Once it became evident that we couldn’t make Leighton’s schedule work, I decided to cast someone from a band I already wanted in the movie.”
So Thomas picked Andrea Estella, the lead singer of the indie band Twin Sister, to fill Meester’s shoes.
Bummer.
