The film – which starts pulling into theaters on July 12 – took the U.S. Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival this past winter, and it just premiered a few weeks ago to even more acclaim at Cannes.
Featuring Oscar winner Octavia Spencer and Michael B. Jordan (TV’s Friday Night Lights and Parenthood, Chronicle), giving what what is expected to be a breakthrough powerful performance, this Forest Whitaker-produced project tells the story of Oscar Grant, a 22-year-old Bay Area man whose 2009 shooting by Oakland BART police led to citywide outrage and protests.
