Advice columnist Abigail Van Buren, née Pauline Phillips, died yesterday. The iconic figure of the American newspaper world, who reached, oh, I dunno...about 100 million readers every day during her 40-year career, was 94.
Phillips had long been suffering from Alzheimer’s. She’d begun co-authoring the “Dear Abby” column with her daughter Jeanne in the mid-’90s.
“My mother leaves very high heels to fill with a legacy of compassion, commitment, and positive social change,” Jeanne said. “I will honor her memory every day by continuing this legacy.”
