Busy (Phillips) Being Supportive

Cougar Town – now on TBS! – is a very, very funny show about friendship, drinking lots o’ wine, and Penny Can, and if you’re not watching, then you probably didn’t get the meaning of that last bit I just said.

So aside from learning WTF I meant, you should watch because the show stars some really talented folk who care about people, like Busy Phillips.

The actress, who became BFF with her Dawson’s Creek co-star Michelle Williams way back when, recently addressed the lesbian rumors surrounding them The Advocate.

OK, pause: There were lesbian rumors about those two? How did I not know about them?

Anyway, Phillipes said that, although she loves Williams “as deeply as I love almost anyone,” the two “don’t do it.”

Not that she thinks there would be anything wrong with that, for she supports the gay community and its plight for equality because it’s the “decent” thing to do.

Phillips elaborated and said, “It’s a civil rights issue. In 20 years we’re going to look back at tapes of these antigay people saying ridiculous things on the news and it’s going to sound as antiquated as the newsreels of horrible racists from the ’50s.”

That we so are. I know I already am. But, fingers crossed, it won’t take that long for gay and lesbian couples out there to benefit from every legal resource and requirement that is available to their hetero counterparts.

That would be the fair thing to do right now.
