The actor’s character on The CW’s The Vampire Diaries, Klaus (an Original vampire who is also part werewolf), is getting a backdoor pilot in April to possibly move on all on his own.
What? Klaus is at a point in Mystic Falls that he could go? I am missing so much. Grr.
Anyway, backdoor pilots are increasingly popular in Hollywood, for they allow the creatives behind a show to test out spin-off options without incurring too much extra cost or effort. Gossip Girl tried its hand at it once, unsuccessfully, as did Bones, I think, which led to the short-lived The Finder.
As for the plot of the project, this upcoming Vampire Diaries spring episode will play as a very special Klaus-centric installment in which the baddie takes a trip to New Orleans’ French Quarter where he reunites with a diabolical former protégé.
Should the experiment work, the pilot would be ordered to a new show titled The Originals.
