No, the It indie guy isn’t playing some sort of superhero in a blockbuster. But he is starring in a short-cum-feature film from writer-director Damien Chazelle about a drummer at an elite jazz conservatory and the frustrated instructor who brutalizes him on the way to greatness.
J.K. Simmons (TNT’s The Closer, Juno), who played the teacher in the Sundance-winning short will reprise his role for the film, while Paul Reiser (TV’s Mad About You, HBO’s Behind the Candelabra) has signed on to portray Teller’s father.
Just so you get an idea of what Whiplash is gonna feel like, the project is being described as Full Metal Jacket-meets-Juilliard.
Sounds hella promising to me. As does Teller, who is giving off major next big thing-ness.
