Dreaming of Para-para-paradise

Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody is now a director, kids.

The Juno and Young Adult scribe stepped behind the camera for the first to helm the upcoming Julianne Hough vehicle Paradise.

A story of innocence lost, the film – which is premiering on DirecTV on Aug. 9 before opening in theaters on Oct. 18 – follows evangelical Christian Lamb (the Safe Haven star), a girl who decides to pursue a bunch of worldly pleasures for the very first time, in Las Vegas, after a freak accident left almost her entire body covered in burns and shattered her belief system. (The film’s title references the  unincorporated Nevada community that is home to the Strip, btw.)

Hough’s Rock of Ages co-star Russell Brand and Academy Award winner Octavia Spencer guide her through all the debauchery, which ultimately helps Lamb come of age.
