Rio Gets Olympic

Not even Oprah and the Obamas could help America fulfill its dreams of hosting the 2016 Olympic Games: the honor went to Rio de Janeiro today.

The announcement brought tears to Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, who dabbed his eyes with a handkerchief several times in a news conference.

“Our hour has arrived,” he said. “It has arrived.”

Rio beat out Madrid, Spain, in the final round. Chicago, Illinois, for which the abovementioned MVPs were rooting, and Tokyo, Japan, were eliminated in earlier rounds.
