A Nobel for Obama

In a bit of a
controversial turn of events, President Barack Obama has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his initiatives to reduce nuclear arms and strengthen international diplomacy.

That sounds good to me, although I can see the point of it being much too soon in his administration for such an accolade.

In its announcement today, the Norwegian Nobel Committee, however, commended Obama’s calls for peace and cooperation and the impact they have made on the global mood.

“Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future,” said committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland. “We are not awarding the prize for what may happen in the future but for what he has done in the previous year. We would hope this will enhance what he is trying to do.”

Sounds sensible enough to me.

Now, in related news: U.S. First Dog Bo

I say too soon. Much too soon. They should have given it to Michelle for keeping the peace among emerging designers.
