Marvel must really want to court the European market with The First Avenger: Captain America starring Chris Evans.British actress Hayley Atwell (The Duchess) will play Cappie’s love interest Peggy Carter in the upcoming blockbuster, taking a role Emily Blunt reportedly refused.
In the original comics, Carter fell in love with Captain America when they fought together in the war. Marvel says the character will be updated for director Joe Johnston’s big-screen take.
Production is set to get underway in London this summer for a July 2011 release.
Here’s to hoping Atwell’s American accent is flawless.
