Behold Katwe’s Queen

This fall/awards season, The Jungle Book’s Lupita Nyong’o will be back at the movies. In the flesh.

The 12 Years a Slave Oscar winner most recently was mostly heard and her essence felt up on that silver screen, as part of the aforementioned blockbuster and, y’ know, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, in which she featured via motion-capture performance, but come Sept. 23, we will be able to see her again, in Mira Nair’s Queen of Katwe.

See, Nyong’o will be playing Harriet, the mother of young Ugandan chess prodigy Phiona Mutesi (newcomer Madina Malwanga) in the film, the trailer for which you can watch here. David Oyelowo co-stars, as Phiona’s chess mentor and coach, Robert Katende.

Do check out the film’s preview, kids. Not only does Queen of Katwe look beyond-worthwhile, the clip also features the smooth melodic sounds of Leona Lewis – Leona Lewis, where have you been?! – singing a song titled “Thick Skin.
