This Is Your New Woyzeck

John Boyega is pulling a bit of a Lupita Nyong’o.

The other Star Wars: The Force Awakens breakout star has decided to make like the Academy Award winner and stretch his acting muscle by hitting the boards of the West End, which he shall now he has signed on to star in an adaptation of Woyzeck next year. (Nyong’o, FYI, earned her first Tony nomination this week, for her starring role in Eclipsed.)

The play, which will be staged at the Old Vic, will revolve around a lowly, downtrodden soldier who ends up killing his wife.

So, you know – drama.

As a character, Woyzeck was born out of an unfinished 1870 play by a Georg Büchner, and is widely believed to be the first genuine working-class hero of the modern theater.
