A Savage Tale of Medicine

Netflix may be hot, but HBO’s still HBO.

And that’s why Oprah is headed its way.

The Big O is going to bring The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks to life with the premium cabler. Based on the Rebecca Skloot book of non-fiction, the project – which girlfriend will executive produce with Alan Ball (HBO’s True Blood) – will tell the real-life story of the African-American woman whose cells were key to going ahead and creating the first immortal human cell line. Which I didn’t even know was a thing.

The made-for-HBO film will be told through the eyes of Deborah Lacks, Henrietta’s daughter, and center on her quest to learn more about the mother she never really knew and to understand how the unauthorized harvesting of her mom’s cancerous cells in 1951 led to many a medical breakthrough and save.

Sounds like it’s gonna be a powerful production.
