Diane Lane has been cast as the Man of Steel’s adoptive mother, Martha Kent, in Zack Snyder’s forthcoming Superman movie. The Academy Award nominee is the first announced co-star in what promises to be a long list yet to come.
“This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman. We are thrilled to have Diane in the role,” the director said of his choice, “because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination.”
Daniel Day-Lewis and Viggo Mortensen are both rumored to be in the running to play the reboot’s bad guy, Gen. Zod.
