Swingin’ for the Fences (Again)

He won a Tony for his work on the Broadway revival of Fences more than half a decade ago – so now Denzel Washington’s gonna court Oscar with the same material.

The multi-hyphenate is going to direct himself in the big-screen adaptation of the August Wilson play, with his Great White Way leading lady (and fellow Tony winner), Viola Davis, joining him on the project.

Fences will center on a once-promising baseballer, who now works as a garbage collector in Pittsburgh.

Production is set to begin on location later this month, and HBO might be in the mix, somehow. Evidently, Washington at some point had wanted to have this out as a mini – but it sounds to me like this is headed to the silver screen, as well it should.
