Meaning she’s going to be in a new movie with one.
That’s right, Mara has landed the (human) lead role in a biopic about Iraq war hero Cpl. Megan Leavey. The untitled project, to be directed by Blackfish’s Gabriela Cowperthwaite, will tell the story of Leavey and her partner from the K9 bomb sniffing unit, Sgt. Rex, both of whom were injured in an explosion in 2006.
Leavey was given a Purple Heart and discharged after two tours with her four-legged comrade, while Sgt. Rex soldiered on. They were reunited five years later after she lobbied for him not to be euthanized so she could adopt him.
Sgt. Rex died in December 2012. He was 11.
