R.I.P. Mr. Gifford

Monday Night Football staple Frank Gifford has passed away.

The sportscaster died of natural causes today in his Connecticut home at the age of 84, leaving behind wife Kathie Lee Gifford and children Cody and Cassidy, as well as Jeff, Kyle, and Victoria, his three children from a previous marriage.

Frank Gifford spent 13 years in the National Football League, playing with the New York Giants. In 1977, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He joined ABC’s Monday Night Football six years prior, after cutting his teeth as a commentator at CBS, a gig he gravitated toward following his playing career.

In lieu of flowers, Kathie Lee Gifford has asked that people wanting to express their support do so by donating to Cassidy’s Place.

Update: Click here to watch how Hoda Kotb, Kathie Lee Gifford’s partner in crime on the Today show, remembered Frank Gifford on Aug. 10.

Kotb, btw, also shared a moment she and her co-host had on Aug. 9 that captured how the Giffords are grieving their loss. (It is all good, all things considered.)
