The New Hedwig

I guess it won’t be Pink who sings about “The Origin of Love” or the virtues of a “Sugar Daddy” as Hedwig on Broadway once Tony winner Neil Patrick Harris is done doing so later this summer.

Andrew Rannells has been tapped for the job.

Indeed, the Girls scene-stealer will return to Broadway – he was part of the original Great White Way cast of The Book of Mormon – to take over the role of the transgender, internationally ignored song stylist from East Berlin whose failed failed sex-change operation left her with...an angry inch.

A solid choice, given that Rannells was nominated for a Tony for Book of Mormon and has played Hedwig once before (in an Austin staging, back in 2001).

The actor will lead a limited eight-week engagement of Hedwig and the Angry Inch beginning on Aug. 20, three days after NPH departs the show.
