There is a studio out there that firmly believes that what the world needs now is a searing and depressing movie out in theaters, and that Kristen Wiig is the one to give it to us.
Which is what Wiig will do now that she has lined up her first directorial effort, an untitled buddy dramedy co-written with her Bridesmaids partner in crime, Annie Mumolo.
Second Oscar Nom Alert?
The project will center on a couple of BFF who find themselves totally in over their head and out of their depths, “which were, perhaps, not too deep to begin with.”
Said Wiig and Mumolo of the job, “We’re very excited to be writing. We will be going into a cave for months to finish [the script]. An actual cave. We found one that’s nice and big. We’re putting a couch in there.”
Whatever works, ladies. Just bring it.
