It is the end of an era.
Focus Features, the home of award-winning, adult-friendly fare such as a Lost in Translation and Brokeback Mountain, is going away.
Universal Pictures announced this week that it is replacing Focus Features’ co-founder and CEO James Schamus with FilmDistrict’s Peter Schlessel, and that, if I remember what I read right, the FilmDistrict banner will take over the Focus Features brand.
The New York office of Focus Features will be closed, with Schlessel setting up shop in L.A., where he will strive to increase production and move on from his Oscar-nominated predecessor’s more art-house-y vibe.
Schamus will stay put until New Year’s Day.
