In heels!
Indeed, NPH has signed on to play John Cameron Mitchell’s alter ego Hedwig on a spring 2014 Great White Way production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch.
“I am simultaneously ecstatic and terrified to be stepping into Hedwig’s heels,” said Harris in his grand announcement. “It is truly a once-in-a-lifetime role and I can’t wait to begin the journey.”
The Obie Award-winning Hedwig and the Angry Inch was first shown Off Off-Broadway in the mid-to-late-’90s. The (musical) story of a transexual punk rock girl from East Berlin touring America with her band and dealing with the theft of her songs by her ex-bf found its way to the big screen in 2001, earning Mitchell a Golden Globe nomination the following year.
