Madame Clinton?

It’s like Hillary Rodham Clinton is the new Lisbeth Salander, and every other It Hollywood actress is rumored to be gunning for the opportunity to play the former secretary of state.

Now, the early word on the street had it that producers working on James Ponsoldt’s (Smashed) Rodham were looking to cast American, and that the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Jessica Chastain, Scarlett Johansson, Amanda Seyfried, and Emma Stone were being eyed to potentially wear Clinton’s pantsuits in the film.

Two things, though: Chastain already downplayed her involvement at the Chime for Change concert in London last week. And there might not even be pantsuits to fill, for the project will center on the early years of La Clinton’s political career.

Anyway, whaddya know: A new frontrunner has emerged in this casting race – and she...is a Brit.

Great Gatsby star Carey Mulligan is said to be very much in the mix. Like, shes the one beat.

Well, if we learned anything from Renée Zellweger playing British icon and wanton sex goddess Bridget Jones, that’s that America had this one coming.

Update: Seems Carey Mulligan has said no to the part.
