No, not to win his first Academy Award. That can wait.
Understand, yo – last summer’s After Earth sure left a stink on this rather impeccable track record, so the erstwhile (?) Mr. Blockbuster is searching for that perfect project that will restore the luster of his big-box-office reputation.
Which, if he’s smart, he’ll combine with pulling a McConaughey-style career renaissance.
Once a vehicle for Ben Affleck and Kristen Stewart, Focus sounds like the kind of character-driven movie in which Smith 2.0 would be most intriguing.
We’ll see on that one next year, but, for now, know that Smith is gonna team up with blockbuster director Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) for the long-in-the-works City That Sailed, the story of a man and his daughter on the island of Manhattan after it breaks loose into the Atlantic.
This on top of his involvement in Selling Time, a thriller about a man who is given the option of adding another seven years to his life, provided that he first says yes to reliving his worst day on Earth one more time.

So, like…uh…shouldn’t this one be called Buying Time instead?
Well, the first title makes sense when you go by this report in which it is explained that the man relives his worst day in order to shave off time from his life expectancy.
