I just heard the non-remix version of #YOLO pop (GTS) princess and 2013 VMAs bête noire extraordinaire Miley Cyrus’ heartbreak anthem “Wrecking Ball” – and saw the video for the song, too – and I am still firmly on Team Miley.
Yeah, yeah, the girl is going for what Fiona Apple went for with “Criminal”....
So what?!
Vocally, I think Cyrus sounds good.
And, yeah, the Terry Richardson-directed video may glamorize unsavory things like kiddie porn, which is something to which I have read tweet-comparisons (but is it kiddie porn if the subject ain’t a kid?), but, again, this is where Cyrus is at as an artist.
Girlfriend never claimed to be an exampled to be followed. If you don’t like it, then don’t pick up what she’s putting down.
Having said that, though, I, for one (of many), am excited to hear more from her upcoming album Bangerz (it comes out on Oct. 8, y’all), which I now understand features Britney Spears, Big Sean, and Nelly.
