Desperate No More

It looks like those Desperate Housewives have reached the end of the Wisteria Lane.

ABC announced yesterday (ish) that the long-running hit’s upcoming eighth season will be its last. The news reportedly came as a bit of a shock for stars Teri Hatcher, Marcia Cross, Emmy winner Felicity Huffman, and Eva Longoria, all of whom recently renegotiated contracts, I believe, through 2013.

Making things a bit more...som’in’: Show creator Marc Cherry will not be calling the shots in the fall as hands-on as he has up to this point. I guess he has other things to worry about.

Look, I’m glad they’ve set an end date for the show, for it has been known to go off the rails sometimes (that arc with Eva Longoria taking a liking to a doll as a substitute for the biological daughter the hospital gave to another woman last season was just a tad too absurd for my taste).

And, hey, as long as they give Marcia Cross and her delicious new love interest Jonathan Cake lots of goodness to work with – and an Emmy-worthy storyline – I think things will be just fine.
