The first trailer for Jem and the Holograms has debuted, and all I can ask is: Where is all the outrageousness?
Aubrey Peeples’ Jerica Benton is nothing but a sullen, yet wildly talented reluctant YouTube sensation-turned-worldwide superstar in the making? And Juliette Lewis isn’t playing Synergy but rather the exec at Starlight Music that re-invents her, Svengali-style, as Jem? Check out the preview to see what I mean:

At least they kept Rio (Ryan Guzman) appropriately dreamy and beefcake-y....
Jem and the Holograms will be theaters on Oct. 23, just in time for Halloween since this one looks officially horrific.
