In their latest issue, the folks at Entertainment Weekly asked, “Who set the standard in Academy Award red carpet fashion in the past 20 years?”
Among their picks: Charlize Theron, who turned heads in tangerine Vera Wang in 2000; Claire Danes, a vision in icy blue back in 1997; Gwyneth Paltrow, every bit the winner in pink Ralph Lauren in 1999; Halle Berry, who made Oscar and fashion history in Elie Saab in 2002; and Penélope Cruz, who raised the bar in Atelier Versace in 2007.
If you ask me, though, the No. 1 spot should have gone to Nicole Kidman for her amazingly golden Christian Dior look in 2000. It was bold, memorable, and striking.
The actress did make EW’s cut, though, coming in the runner-up for her 1997 chartreuse John Galliano for Dior number. But again, if you ask me, nothing could top her go-for-gold look.

She looked human back then. Shame.
