As you probably know, because you have been following the news like your life depends on it, embattled Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal is out as a studio head...but will hang her producing shingle at Sony.
Her first order of business?
To let Spider-Man go play with the boys and girls at Marvel.
Yes! Pascal has brokered a deal with Marvel’s golden man, Kevin Feige, that will allow Peter Parker to lend his mad webslinging skillz to a Marvel movie from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (more than likely Captain America: Civil War). For his part, Feige will produce the next Spider-Man movies, beginning with what I presume will be the third Amazing Spider-Man movie coming out in July 2017.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 came out last summer, to less than stellar and box office (relatively speaking on the latter matter, of course). No word on whether Andrew Garfield will retain the Spider-Man role or on whether Shailene Woodley will still be playing Mary Jane Watson now that – Spoiler Alert! – Emma Stone’s Gwen Stacy has gone and met her maker.
So far, the only ripple the news has had is on scheduling: the releases of Thor’s third, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Inhumans are all shifting. The two-part third Avengers blockbuster will still begin to hit screens in May 2018, though.
