A Different Kind of Holiday

Kate Winslet’s making Labor Day plans with Jason Reitman.

The Oscar winner has signed on to star in the writer-director’s adaptation of the 2009 Joyce Maynard novel. She’ll play the lonesome mother of a 13-year-old boy with whom she takes in an escaped convicted murderer.

Josh Brolin is committed for the part of that dangerous-looking man (when the woman and her son find him he’s badly hurt and bleeding, so, you know...trouble).

The project, set in the ’80s over the late-summer holiday, will go into production next year in New England.
