Slumdog Millionaire is sooo money, honey. I said it’ll be the one to beat.
The modestly budgeted indie hit scored the top award from the Producers Guild of America on Saturday, building more momentum for the rags-to-riches drama in the Oscar race for best picture.
Meanwhile, its ensemble won outstanding performance by a cast in a motion picture at the Screen Actors Guild Awards yesterday. Another SAG winner was the late Heath Ledger for his work in The Dark Knight.
Gary Oldman accepted the SAG award for his co-star. “[Heath] was an extraordinary young man with an extra ordinary talent, and it is wonderful that you have acknowledged that and honored that talent tonight, he said.
Among the SAG winners was Meryl Streep, best leading actress in a movie for her role in Doubt, Kate Winslet, best supporting actress for The Reader, and Sean Penn, best leading actor in a movie for his work in Milk.
On the TV side, 30 Rock swept – yay! Hugh Laurie (House) and Sally Field (Brothers & Sisters) were crowned TV dramas’ king and queen. And Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney (the stars of HBO’s John Adams) added two more awards to their collection.
Oh, and Kyra Sedgwick (TNT’s The Closer) really showed them how it’s done in black-and-white vintage Chanel. Girlfriend looked smoking.
