Did you know that Tim Burton is working on an obviously very Burtonian remake of Disney’s Alice in Wonderland?
Well, he is, and he cast Aussie newcomer Mia Wasikowska (pictured at right on the movie’s English set) in the titular role.
This film isn’t due until sometime in 2010, but it is off to a buzz-worthy start with a great cast that also includes Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Anne Hathaway as the Queen, and Alan Rickman as the Caterpillar.
Not bad way for Wasikowska (who earned lots and lots of praise for her work in HBO’s In Treatment, which reminds me I must rent the DVDs ASAP) to make a big splash, huh.
The young actress, one of The Daily Beast’s Breakout Stars of 2009, will be seen later this year in Amelia, the Amelia Earhart biopic starring Hilary Swank and Ewan McGregor.
