Fox Searchlight Pictures, you guys are my new BFF.
The studio is said to be making the deals with the cast and crew behind TV’s Arrested Development for a movie version of the much-missed Emmy-winning comedy series.
None of the deals are finished, and it could take some time given that they have to be negotiated with creator Mitch Hurwitz, producers Brian Grazer and Ron Howard, as well as the large cast.
On-the-rise show co-star Michael Cera (Superbad, Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist) is said to be on the fence about a possible movie – It’s “more hypothetical than people think,” he said last week – but his on-screen Pop-Pop, Jeffrey Tambor, has promised Cera’s on board, and even has threatened some mild grandfatherly discipline.
“If I have to call him up and say, ‘Get on set right now, young man,’ he’ll be there,” Tambor said. “The movie is going to happen this year, and Michael Cera is on board. Trust me.”
Hurwitz, btw, has yet to finish and deliver a script, but as one source put it, “It’s more likely to happen now than it ever has been before.”
Annyong!
