Coming Up: Prigione Chic By D&G

Mamma mia.

That’s probably why designers Domenico Dolce (pictured at right, to the right) and Stefano Gabbana are saying now that they have been convicted of tax evasion by an Italian court following a seven-month-long trial.

The pair was slapped with a suspended jail sentence of 20 months, and, of course, they plan to appeal the ruling.

This is the latest in the legal travails of the designers behind Dolce & Gabbana. D and G previously were fined $440 million by the Italian Tax Commission for crimes committed during the 2004 sale of the company to another Luxembourg-based entity believed to have been used as a holding company designed to keep the guys from paying their country’s steep corporate tax rates.

Forget hobo chic, fashionistas. It’s all about style from la prigione for the foreseeable future.

Update: Lest think their celebrity fans would run in the opposite way of their stylish scandal, know that Dolce & Gabbana are still top of their game, and will (still) be outfitting Bruno Mars during his “Moonshine Jungle Tour kicking off on June 22.
