Frodo’s Baaack!

Elijah Wood’s headed back to the Shire.

The actor will reprise his role as Frodo Baggins in Peter Jackson’s long-awaited adaptation of The Hobbit...even though the character doesn’t appear in J.R.R. Tolkien’s original Hobbit book, which takes place a good many years before the events of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, to which he is key.

Word is Frodo will appear at the beginning of each of the two installments of The Hobbit as a framing device for the narrative.

Another liberty that Jackson is taking is the inclusion of Cate Blanchett as Galadriel, btw.

Update: Ian McKellen is signed on, at last. Ditto Andy Serkis, who once again will play Gollum.
