Woman on a Mission

Get used to seeing Paula Patton around.

The Precious actress, who recently became Law & Order: SVU’s new full-time assistant district attorney, will star opposite Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner in the Mission: Impossible fourthquel.

This latest installment – which Cruise and J.J. Abrams are producing and Brad Bird (The Incredibles) is directing – will not be, contrary to word on the Hollywood street, a “reboot,” and it won’t be titled Mission: Impossible IV, either.

Patton will play an up-and-coming agent working with Cruise’s Ethan Hunt.

The movie is expected out in theaters on Dec. 16, 2011.

Update: Well, how’s this for bittersweet.

It seems that Patton’s big-screen score has resulted in an abbreviated stint on the small screen and her character on SVU will be seen all but one time.

Melissa Sagemiller, who co-starred on the short-lived TNT legal drama Raising the Bar not too long ago, will now play the new ADA on the show.
