Angelina Jolie will keep on directin’, y’all.
The filmmaker – whose third effort from behind the camera, the Brad Pitt-co-starring By the Sea is due out in November – has signed on to call the shots on a project for Netflix. The film will be an adaptation of Loung Ung’s 2000 memoir, First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers.
Jolie reportedly also will produce the film, which she co-wrote, given that she, “was deeply affected by Loung’s book [as i]t deepened forever my understanding of how children experience war and are affected by the emotion memory of it.”
First They Killed My Father will stream next year, in both English and Khmer, and is planned to have a festival run as well. It will go into production before La Jolie’s Africa, a previously announced epic story about paleoanthropologist/politician Richard Leakey.
