A woman, a detective, meets another woman, a mechanic; they fall in love. The first woman gets sick; they both know she is going to die. The two have gotten...domestic-partnered, and, yet, the detective is not allowed to leave her spouse her pension.
The year is 2005.
How far we have come, huh.
It’s now so hard to believe, but once upon a time, not that long ago, cases like that were commonplace. The upcoming drama Freeheld tells the story of one such case, the one concerning Laurel Hester and Stacie Andree.
Julianne Moore – in a turn that some already believe will see her get invited to defend her title as Oscar’s reigning Best Actress next winter – stars in the film with Ellen Page, Michael Shannon (he plays Moore’s work partner), and Steve Carell as a not-so-unlikely ally – and lemme tell ya, Freeheld looks like it is gonna be a weeper of the most powerful order.
Check out the trailer now, and do look for Freeheld in the fall.
