Channing Tatum’s going west with Netflix.

The actor is going to produce – at the very least – Yuba for the streamer.

A western set in the Gold Rush of yore, the film was written by newcomer Eamon O’Sullivan and will be a sprawling period tale centering on two main characters.

FYI: The Yuba river valley was notorious once for its unabashed lawlessness.

So now you kinda know what you’ll be getting into, kids.

One more month, kids.

Exactly one more month until we get to binge Netflix’s revivalicious Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

I can already taste my Thanksgiving dinner and the awesomeness of the four Amy Sherman-Palladino-devised movielets starring Lauren Graham, Alexis Bledel, Kelly Bishop & Co. that the streamer will be serving for dessert.

The Unluckiest Number

Director Ava DuVernay has a special new film coming out soon. Real soon.

Well, the project is actually a documentary, and it is, in fact, hitting Netflix later this week, on Oct. 7.

Titled 13th, the endeavor proved to be so remarkable, it became the first-ever doc to open the 2016 New York Film Festival last week. With it, DuVernay explores how race affects the criminal justice system in the United States of America – and vice versa, I should say – as she examines how the Thirteenth Amendment theoretically abolished slavery in America and essentially created a new form of it through mass incarceration.

Needless to say, 13th promises to be powerful, illuminating stuff.

Space Dad

Toby Stephens is turning to streaming.

The 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi stud has been tapped to lead Netflix’s 2018 reboot of Lost in Space.

The British actor (Starz’s Black Sails) will portray John, the patriarch of the Robinson family, an astrophysicist who must step up to the plate when their traveling spacecraft becomes stranded light years away from their intended destination, in a dangerous alien environment that also stirs some deep personal demons.

That sounds like a potentially fun binge.

Thanksgiving Gilmored

Well now I know how I’m celebrating Thanksgiving later this year.

I’m watching Netflix’s revival of Gilmore Girls, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. The eagerly awaited four 90-minute movielets starring Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel & Co. are officially scheduled to become available for streamin’ on Nov. 25. 

And lest you think the girls have lost their touch with witty words and deep thoughts, check this out:

She Won’t Give Up

Winona Ryder’s eagerly anticipated arrival on the streamin’ scene is nigh.

The actress’ foray into Netflix territory, Stranger Things, is set to drop on July 15.

On the show, which is set in 1980s Indiana, Ryder plays the working-class mother of a 2-year-old who vanishes into thin air under beyond-mysterious circumstances.

A supernatural little big something is uncovered during the course of the local authorities’ investigation. Som’in’ that Big Government does not want anybody to know.

Well, not exactly. And more like, headed to the Internet.

Emmy winner Jenji Kohan, the creator of Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black, is developing a new 10-episode first season of a show inspired by those once-syndicated Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling from the ’80s. The project will be set in Los Angeles instead of Las Vegas, and follow and out-of-work actress who, on a last-ditch effort, decides to try for a spot on a weekly series about female wrestlers.

This could be so campy and dramatic I already luh it.

The Girlboss Is Here

Tomorrowland did not do it for her...so, perhaps, Netflix shall?

The Space Between Us’ Britt Robertson is gonna give it the ol’ college try with Girlboss, a new comedy that the powers that be at the streamer are working on based on the autobiography by Sophia Amoruso.

The actress will play a rebellious, broke anarchist who just won’t grow up but who nevertheless stumbles onto success when she starts selling her vintage wardrobe online, thus realizing along the way the value and challenges of being the boss of your own life.

Cute.

Julie Andrews’ Wonderful Streamin’ Surprise

Meanwhile, the OG Mary Poppins, Julie Andrews, is doing Netflix.

Well that came outta nowhere.

The streamer announced earlier today that the national treasure that is Ms. Andrews is going to headline Julie’s Greenroom, a new half-hour pre-school show from The Jim Henson Company featuring an all-new puppet cast of kids learning about the performing arts.

The actress will play Ms. Julie, the teacher and director of this founded-for-Netflix school for the performing arts that shall welcome as guests the likes of Ellie Kemper and Tituss Burgess, from the parent company’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Chris Colfer (TV’s Glee), Sara Bareilles, and Idina Menzel, among others.

Godless Cowboy

Scoot McNairy (AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire) is heeding the call of the stream.

Of Netflix, that is.

See, the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice pawn is circling Godless, a limited period drama that Money Monster’s Jack O’Connell is set to lead.

A western set in an 1800s New Mexico mining town, the project will be executive produced by Steven Soderbergh, and also has drawn the interest of Jeff Daniels, who, I bet, is also excited about the prospect of playing a cowboy.

For I presume this one will be about cowboys.

Titled Girls

And the star-studded Netflix revival of the our beloved Gilmore Girls will now officially be known as...Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.

So it was announced on Ellen today, by none other than Lorelai Gilmore herself, the incomparable Lauren Graham.

The title is a direct reference to the fact that we are getting four 90-minute so-called movielets overseen by main Gilmore Girl Amy Sherman-Palladino and her executive producer-husband, Daniel Palladino. Each movielet will be set during a different season of the year: winter, spring, summer, and fall, and Imma guess the picture here is from either “Spring” or “Summer.” (Click here for more first-look pics.)

Update: It was announced on May 24, that Lauren Graham also has a new book in the works.

Titled Talking As Fast As I Can, this will be LG’s first collection of humorous essays, and it will include many an anecdote about playing one of her signature roles (her part in Parenthood would be the other – duh).

The actress published her first novel, Someday, Someday, Maybe, three years ago.

Talking As Fast As I Can is due out on Nov. 29 – which could serve as a hint as to when Netflix is planning on releasing Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, no?

Altered Kinnaman

Joel Kinnaman is getting back in bed with Netflix, the home of the final season of his breakout show, The Killing, and that of the current one he graces, House of Cards.

The Suicide Squad actor is set to headline Altered Carbon for the streamer.

A futuristic drama based on the cyberpunk sci-fi novel(s) by Richard Morgan, the project will be set in the 25th century (well, ain’t that hopeful!), a time when the human mind has been effectively digitized and our souls can be carried over from body to body – if you really like yours.

Kinnaman will portray Takeshi Kovacs, a former elite interstellar warrior fresh off a 500-year prison sentence, who gets downloaded into a future he desperately tried to avoid with one special mission: Solve a single murder in a tech-driven world that has made death a thing of the past, get a chance at a new life on Earth.

Simple, huh?

Likely not all.

This could make for some good Netflix and chillin’.

Schneider Sees Another Day

Meet Justina Machado’s new on-screen (potential) man.

Or pal, at the very least.

Cutie Todd Grinnell is going to play Schneider on Netflix’s forthcoming Latino retool of Norman Lear’s One Day at a Time. Indeed, the Grace and Frankie actor will be taking on the only role from the original that will be making it to the contemporary remake.

FYI, the update will center on an ex-servicewoman single Cuban-American mom (Machado) raising two troublesome children (a boy and a girl), with the help of her mother (Rita Moreno).

Grinnell’s Schneider will be a charming (how could he not – look at that face!), if a bit aloof and super-privileged handyman who lives free of rent in his dad’s building, which he also manages.

This one has love interest potential, alright.

Gypsy Alert!

Another day, another star decides to Netflix up.

Two-time Academy Award nominee Naomi Watts – currently in theaters with Demolition – is going to lead Gypsy for the streamer.

A psychological thriller, the show will center on a therapist who becomes more and more dangerously, intimately enmeshed with the people in her patients’ lives. The actress will executive produce the project, which has landed director Sam Taylor-Johnson (Fifty Shades of Grey) to helm the first two eps of its straight-to-series 10-episode order for 2017.

Ya didn’t really think The Boss Melissa McCarthy was gonna stay away from Stars Hollow, did ya.

The reigning queen of the box office has worked out her schedule so she can take part on Netflix’s upcoming revival of Gilmore Girls. The actress confirmed she will reprise her role as chef-and-BFF/business partner-to-Lauren Graham’s Lorelai Gilmore Sookie St. James on Ellen late last week.

See? There was a will, so they found a way.

From Star Wars: The Force Awakens to...A Futile & Stupid Gesture?

Don’t let it be said that Domhnall Gleeson isn’t thematically ambitious.

The Brooklyn star is set to co-star in a new Netflix joint by that title, with Will Forte (TV’s The Last Man on Earth). The project will serve as a biopic of the guys who founded the National Lampoon humor magazine, Doug Kenney, Henry Beard, and Robert Hoffman.

Gleeson will portray Beard, while Forte has been tapped to play Kenney.

Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp’s David Wain is directing the movie based on an eponymous book by Josh Karp – so you know it will have that (brand o’ funny) going for it.

Colleen Wing Has Been Found, Too

Netflix has zeroed in on an Iron Fist leading lady for Finn Jones.

Badass up-and-comer Jessica Henwick (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, HBO’s Game of Thrones; she played one of the Sand Snakes on the latter) has been tapped to portray Colleen Wing on the upcoming series, which will follow this year’s Luke Cage staring Mike Colter.

OK, so I don’t actually know for sure that Luke Cage is streaming later this year, but you know what I mean.

Anyway, Colleen Wing, you should know, will prove herself an invaluable ally to Jones’ character, went-missing-a-few-years-ago billionaire Danny Rand, as he – and his Iron Fist alter ego – return to his life in New York City.

Bright Times Ahead

Netflix is on it, yo.

Not only are the powers that be over there making Brad Pitt’s next film, War Machine (nothing to do with Don Cheadle, kids – oh, look it up), but, now, they’re making Will Smith’s next one, too.

See, the streamer has paid $90 million for the privilege of making Bright, a new action movie to be helmed by director David Ayer (the upcoming Suicide Squad, Fury) starring Smith and Midnight Special’s Joel Edgerton.

The project, FYI, is said to be a cop thriller with some fantastical elements.

Duh. Obviously.

Doing It for Santa Clarita

Jeez. How did we get here?

Drew Barrymore is headed to the small/stream screen.

Yes. Golden Globe winner Drew friggin’ Barrymore, former like, legit movie star, is getting downsized. A job is a job, but this trend we’re seeing, where movie stars are having to turn to ghost-written books and lifestyle platforms and – shudder – TV, well...it’s a massive shift in paradigm.

This would never have happened 10 years ago. Thanks, short(er) attention spans and making everybody a star and offering unlimited options!

But I rant.

Barrymore is set to co-produce and co-star with Emmy nominee Timothy Olyphant (FX’s Justified) on Santa Clarita Diet, a new single-cam comedy that will premiere on Netflix next year. Olyphant and Barrymore will play a married couple living somewhat discontentedly in Santa Clarita, the Los Angeles ’burb, until she undergoes a dramatic change that sends them both a path of destruction and death, but...in a good way!

Well consider me curious now.

Streaming Thrice a Week This Summer

Chelsea Handler is ready to talk...on a new show.

But don’t call it a late-night talk show – because the show is gonna be on Netflix, as you very well know.

You can watch it later, but it is not a late-night talk show, OKRRR.

It’s an any-ol’-time-you-want talk show.

Anyway. The Chelsea Does... star announced this week, via a hand-written letter she wrote to herself that was posted onto her social, that the streamer will release three 30-minute episodes of her still-untitled new show every week (on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays) beginning on May 11.

At last.

Looking forward to it! Especially because, as Handler noted, it is an election year. And gf will have something to say about that, alright.
