Altered Kinnaman

Joel Kinnaman is getting back in bed with Netflix, the home of the final season of his breakout show, The Killing, and that of the current one he graces, House of Cards.

The Suicide Squad actor is set to headline Altered Carbon for the streamer.

A futuristic drama based on the cyberpunk sci-fi novel(s) by Richard Morgan, the project will be set in the 25th century (well, ain’t that hopeful!), a time when the human mind has been effectively digitized and our souls can be carried over from body to body – if you really like yours.

Kinnaman will portray Takeshi Kovacs, a former elite interstellar warrior fresh off a 500-year prison sentence, who gets downloaded into a future he desperately tried to avoid with one special mission: Solve a single murder in a tech-driven world that has made death a thing of the past, get a chance at a new life on Earth.

Simple, huh?

Likely not all.

This could make for some good Netflix and chillin’.

Rotten to the Core

And in other fresh-trailer news (sorry, Zac Efron, but you are so this morning)....

Check out the newest promo stuff for this summer’s star-studded bad guys-centric DC Comicsverse entry, Suicide Squad, directed by Fury’s David Ayer.

As you can very well see, we have us a new poster, and a new trailer that expands on the nature and vibe of each of the characters in the production. I likey.

Seems like Margot Robbie is poised to steal and run away with the blockbuster as Harley Quinn, like Joel Kinnaman appears to be one of the few quote-unquote good guys of the story, and like the powers that be want to keep us guessing about Jared Leto’s take on the Joker as long as they possibly can.

I’m cool with that.

When the Bad Going Have to Get Good

It was a good Comic-Con this year, from the sounds of it.

The annual convention in San Diego got the fanpeople super-excited about stuff like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and next summer’s Suicide Squad, not to mention myriad TV shows and their new seasons or launches.

Suicide Squad, for sure, was a big deal. The powers that be weren’t planning on sharing the first-look trailer they presented at the Con right away, but, you know...the Internet.

So without further ado, here’s the first preview for the David Ayer-directed August 2016 blockbuster about a group of villains tryin’ to do some good. The movie stars Will Smith, Terminator Genisys’ Jai Courtney, Joel Kinnaman, Focus’ Margot Robbie, Paper Towns’ Cara Delevingne, Viola Davis, Scott Eastwood, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as the Killer Croc, and Jared Leto as the Joker.

Suicide Squad will open on Aug. 5, 2016.

Update: Oh, screw it.

Looks like fun, no?

On Fleek Squad

There it is...the Suicide Squad.

Director David Ayer released the first official cast photo of his Suicide Squad in costume yesterday. The first-look pic features the Jai Courtney (second from left) as Captain Boomerang, model-cum-actress Cara Delevingne (Paper Towns) as the Enchantress, Joel Kinnaman (who came in after Tom Hardy dropped outta the project – click here for a why) Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as the villainous Killer Croc.

Adam Beach (first from left), Jay Hernandez (first from right), and Karen Fukuhara (front) will play Slipknot (OK – that is yet to be confirmed), El Diablo, and Katana, respectively.

Missing in action? Jared Leto, who is playing the Joker in the August 2016 release, and Scott Eastwood, who will portray Steve Trevor, a potential paramour for Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) in a different movie.

Could He Be Rick Flag?

And the search for a new Rick Flag continues.

As you probably know, Tom Hardy was originally supposed to play the DC Comicsverse’s character in the forthcoming Suicide Squad movie, but those pesky scheduling conflicts got in the way, right. So the powers that be turned to Jake Gyllenhaal, who – darn – passed on the project.

So now they are looking at Joel Kinnaman.

A fine-ass choice, IMHO.

Unkilled Again

The Killing is like a cat.

I mean, the on-Netflix-by-way-of-AMC-as-of-recently show was just 86d – for the second time! – after completing its third season over the summer, and now comes the welcome news that the streamer has decided to go ahead with a fourth and final six-episode wrap-up season.

I just started watching the last season that AMC aired online, so I am blissfully unspoiled.

But I can, without doubt, say I am happy I will be seeing Mireille Enos and the on-the-brink Joel Kinnaman on the small screen again.

Well, on my laptop.

A New Tall and Sexy RoboCop Is Coming, Yo

Joel Kinnaman’s RoboCop is ready to be seen.

Before, y’ know, we actually get to see him kicking ass, in the RoboCop reboot that Brazilian director José Padilha (Bus 174) has helmed for our enjoyment.

I’ve great hopes for this one, not only because the movie reportedly will feature a new origin story for Alex Murphy but because Kinnaman’s the man (love him on AMC’s The Killing).

So check out the trailer and mark your calendars for Feb. 7, people.

That’s the day this Swede – check out those lips! – will become a movie star (click here more pics of the guy in and out of his suit).

Unkilled

AMC has done what some of us wanted since hearing about it last fall: It has resuscitated The Killing.

F--- yeah!

The cabler announced yesterday that Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman will be back as detectives Sarah Linden and Stephen Holder for a self-contained 12-episode season overseen once again by show mastermind Veena Sud.

Except Linden won’t be a detective anymore. A year will have passed since we last saw her. And Holder will be calling upon her to help him solve case that harks back to an older case of hers.

Like a magnet that woman....

I’m excited about the return of The Killing, especially because it’ll give Kinnaman another chance to parade on camera in ratty T-shirts, being all cool and s---, and, maybe, win a much-deserved Emmy for his terrific acting. Enos, too. What she does no one else can do.

Unkilled?

Hold on to your umbrellas, Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman – The Killing could live.

Yes, the acclaimed and polarizing crime drama is on the optimistic end of television life support, thanks to Netflix. Through a proposed partnership between the show’s network, the cabler AMC, and the streaming/DVD delivery provider, The Killing could see the light of a third season.

Showrunner Veena Sud is still attached to the project and reportedly has pitched a well-received story, and Enos and Kinnaman are still on board, so it could very well happen.

And I hope it does.

I need to see more of Kinnaman’s Holder.

Is This the New RoboCop?

If you’ve seen AMC’s The Killing, then you know who Joel Kinnaman is.

The scene-stealing Swede is being courted to star in the upcoming RoboCop remake that MGM is prepping.

Think the guy has what it takes it to step in for Peter Weller?

I think so.

I mean, if they make the character a broody badass, that is.
