The saga of Screen Actors Guild Award-nominated actress Misty Upham is over.
Upham (Frozen River, August: Osage County) reportedly went missing on Oct. 5. She was found dead yesterday, in a wooded area near Forest Ridge Drive in Auburn, Wash., by a search party led by her family and friends.
The actress’ disappearance was originally believed to be related to her reported bipolar disorder. Her family doesn’t believe the cause of her death could be suicide, though, and that the only reason she was in the woods in the first place was to hide from police.
Her old co-stars Meryl Streep and Melissa Leo both have expressed their sorrow over Upham’s passing, while Juliette Lewis – who has echoed the sentiment – has shared that the actress may have been in fear for her life, “Bcuz she was vocal” about some quote-unquote injustices within the Native American community.
Upham was a member of the Blackfoot Tribe. She was 32.
