Malala Yousafzai has won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize.
Indeed, Yousafzai, 17, actually became the youngest winner of the award today, when she was recognized for her tireless work on behalf of education for Pakistani women.
As you’ll remember, the Pakistani young lady gained worldwide notoriety in 2012, when a Taliban gunman tracked her down to her school bus, asked for her by name, and shot to kill her, a retaliation for her under-a-pseudonym writings for the BBC, which chronicled her life under the oppressive Taliban regime and her quest to promote education for girls in the Swat Valley.
The Nobel committee also singled out Indian children’s rights activist Kailash Satyarth for his “struggle against the suppression of children and young people and for the right of all children to education.”
