The Return of the TV Variety Show

Maya Rudolph is doing one.

So is Neil Patrick Harris.

Well...maybe.

See, television producers are going gaga over variety shows.

The folks at NBC already have given a one-hour one led by Rudolph, aptly titled The Maya Rudolph Show, a green light to air this month – so mark your calendars for May 19 at 10 p.m. (Kristen Bell, Sean Hayes, and Andy Samberg, among others, already have!).

And now the brass at CBS reportedly are in talks with their How I Met Your Mother MVP, the Tony-nominated NPH, about doing a variety show...which is of interest to the actor because that kinda show’s “structure” is not as “set” as that of, say, the Late Show.

Which, he has revealed, was floated his way before it went to Stephen Colbert!
