Cannes Hearts Julianne

Much has been said about David Cronenberg’s upcoming Maps to the Stars in certain circles, most of it about how the dark, trippy-looking Hollywood satire is like, just a new Robert Pattinson vehicle; check out the trailer here.

But now the Cannes Film Festival has changed the conversation.

That’s because the Jane Campion-led jury of this year’s edition of the glitzy fest has picked Julianne Moore (pictured here, as you can see, thisclose to R. Patz) as the best actress out of everything they saw playing at the Riviera during the past couple of weeks.

They also went with Winter Sleep, from Turkish Nuri Bilge Ceylan, as their pick for the Palm d’Or, and with Timothy Spall for best actor, for his work in the buzzy Mike Leigh film Mr. Turner, the J.M.W. Turner biopic.

Moneyball helmer Bennet Miller took best director honors for his eagerly awaited awards bait Foxcatcher.

Let the Oscar race beging?
