Woman Got Some Gunslingers
Coming up later this year, it’s The Magnificent Seven!
Indeed, as expected, Southpaw director Antoine Fuqua is delivering his Nic Pizzolatto-writtenremake reimagining of the 1960 film about a group of gunmen who defend a Mexican town from a bunch o’ outlaws (and the woman who puts them on the task).
The Sept. 23 release will pit cowboys (led by Denzel Washington) against cowboys (hey there, Peter Sarsgaard) in a sandy battle of bullets and whathaveya.
The Magnificent Seven co-stars Chris Pratt, Haley Bennett, Ethan Hawke, Matt Bomer, among others. Behold the movie’s first trailer now.

Hot Tycoon
Matt Bomer will stream.
The American Horror Story: Hotel guest and Magic Mike XXL eye candy has been tapped for the lead on Amazon’s The Last Tycoon, a new drama based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s final unfinished novel.
Bomer will play Monroe Stahr, a wunderkind-studio-executive-character inspired by film mogul Irving Thalberg (there’s an honorary Academy Award named after him; look it up). The drama will be mined from the show’s 1930s setting, and from the violence, sex, and ambition of the era.
Mmm...you had me at Bomer. Picturing him in some fine-looking ’30s styles, well.... That’s giving me thoughts.

Pulling an Anna Kendrick Much?
So Magic Mike XXL was a bit of a dud – but Matt Bomer seems to be coming out on top.
Mmm...pause to picture that.
Anyway. Bomer has scored an unlikely hit with the cover of D’Angelo’s “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” he sings in the movie and its soundtrack, and the single is climbing, climbing, climbing ’em charts. How oh-so-Anna Kendrick of him, huh (remember how she charted with “Cups” from the original Picture Perfect a few years ago?).
As of yesterday’s, Bomer’s cover was No. 8 on the Top 10 Spotify list of viral tracks.
Well look at that.

Boys Gone Wild Yet Again
They pretty, but they talk too much.
That (!) is the lesson from this weekend’s eagerly awaited Magic Mike XXL, the sequel to the summer 2012 pleaser of crowds, Magic Mike.
Actually, that little nugget of knowledge began to sink in while watching the movie, a rather terrible thing to have happen, for it completely takes ya outta the moment. And I do mean it gets in the way of enjoying all the T&A (thrusting and abs) that the marketing department behind the production have been selling us.
This is a movie about strippers – pardon, a movie about male entertainers. It ought to be fun and definitely not necessarily lesson-imparting.
Not that Channing Tatum & Co.’s second working of the pole ain’t a romp (at times). It absolutely is...when his back-from-retirement Magic Mike and his sexy bros are, in fact, dancing and shaking it, not when they’re trying to make us care about them. Ahem, we want pecs, not the rich inner workings of Big Dick Richie (Joe Manganiello).
See, much as it was the case with the original, helmed by Steven Soderbergh (who, btw, has remained involved with the bound-for-Broadway franchise, serving as an executive producer on Magic Mike XXL and as its invaluable cinematographer), this part deux suffers from a sort of split personality disorder. It obviously wants to be everything skinstastic it has been promising and an effective indie-esque story about getting yourself out of a funk (lemme just say things haven’t exactly turned into a Norman Rockwell painting for our protagonist).
That plot-against-thongs conflict was more easily overlooked three years ago because Matthew McConaughey was on board stirring things up for Mike (and Tatum). McConaughey’s oily Dallas owned the joint in which our guy danced, and, thus, he kinda owned the budding furniture designer by day, man o’ fantasy by night. Given the twangin’ actor’s Academy Award-winning McConaissance, Magic Mike XXL has to go sans Dallas (Alex Pettyfer’s newbie stripper’s gone, too), and without an antagonist, which is NBD since this one is all about this huge stripper convention in Myrtle Beach that, just like a siren, calls upon those good ol’ Tampa boys we made it rain for before.
Mike is lured back into the fold for one last hurrah, resolves outstanding animosities with the crew, especially with the more-fleshed-out-as-a-character Ken (Matt Bomer), and, because this is a sequel that requires more, more, more! and bigger, too, he recruits an old and special acquaintance played by Jada Pinkett Smith and tWitch to join in, as well as Amber Heard, Andie McDowell, Elizabeth Banks.
The result is yet another movie that’s not quite sure what it really wants to be, and an enjoyable-enough time at the movies.
For hot time, this one’s much too not for its own good, which so makes me doubt the possibility of a threequel titled Magic Mike 3-D.
My Rating **1/2

Magnificent Bomer
Matt Bomer is magnificent, we know that.
But now, the man is Magnificent. As in one of The Magnificent Seven.
The Golden Globe winner has signed on to join Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt in the Antoine Fuqua-directed remake of the 1960 film centering on a group of gunmen who defend a Mexican town from a bunch o’ outlaws-and-comer.
Bomer joins a cast that also includes Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio (Netflix’s Daredevil), Jason Momoa, and Haley Bennett (the Magic Mike XXL star will play her husband).

Bomer Time’s Second Coming
Well, hello Ken, ya doll!
Part of the reason we so excited about Magic Mike XXL is, obviously, the anticipation of seeing the oh-so-pretty Matt Bomer grind it once again (and take part in a scene wearing a sarong – hello!), right?
Heck yeah right.
Bomer really gives Channing Tatum et al. a run for their money, huh.
Magic Mike XXL will be abs out in theaters on July 1.

Matt and Chey Check In
And bare with me, ’cause it’s a doozy.
For real.
You’ll see.
’Cause like, look at the pic at right.
You’re getting the idea, yeah?
I mean, look at those faces.
Could the American Horror Story powers that be, say, consider repackaging Hotel into Bathhouse and selling it to HBO or Showtime? Make it real fun to watch, knowwhatImean?
What...am I talking about?
Talkin’ about the fifth installment of the franchise, of course.
Now that Jessica Lange is “done” with the franchise, and Lady GaGa is just getting started with it, Ryan Murphy & Co. are calling on the boys to try and fill in the void that the Academy Award winner surely has created. Namely Matt Bomer and Cheyenne Jackson, both whom have worked with Murphy on TV’s Glee (not to mention HBO’s The Normal Heart in the former’s case).
Evidently, Bomer might be playing Mother Monster’s love interest, while Jackson doesn’t have a clue who he’s set to portray.

Mike Is Coming (Back)
That sound the world heard earlier this week, that was the sound of me girls and gents that like gents, ahem, watching and enjoying the first teaser for the upcoming Magic Mike sequel, Magic Mike XXL.
And, boy oh boy, can Channing Tatum move, huh.
I now will simply echo what everyone probably already has said and say that, yeah, July 1 cannot get here fast enough – because this follow-up’s gonna serve even more of what the original did a few summers ago now that Mike and his guys – including Joe Manganiello and Matt Bomer – will be road-trippin’ is to a stripper convention.
I mean....

Monty Clift the Way of HBO Goes
Looks like HBO will be a haven to another hard-to-make film with a gay (or gay-ish) subject matter.
Matt Bomer’s long-gestating Montgomery Clift project is pulling a Behind the Candelabra of sorts and will now be made as a for-the-premium cabler biopic.
Love Is Strange writers Ira Sachs and Mauricio Zacharias are reworking the script for the film, which is n.k.a. Monty Clift and is to touch on the From Here to Eternity’s anti-Hollywood-studio-contract crusade, his struggles with his sexual orientation, and the devastating car accident that haunted him until his death.
I smell an Emmy!
Especially since Bomer did not get as we all thought that he would last summer, for his work on HBO’s The Normal Heart.

Hemsworth the Sexiest
Duh!
Sorry, Chris Pratt and Neil Patrick Harris, but People magazine has gone with Chris Hemsworth as its Sexiest Man Alive for 2014.
Personally, I would also add that the In the Heart of the Sea star – the man who is Thor! – is the Hottest Man Alive. And the Manliest Man Alive (that voice!).
I also reckon that Australia would dub him Sexiest Aussie Alive and the Aussiest Aussie Alive on account of the self-deprecation he reportedly exhibited when he found out he had been selected for the annual hot-nor.
“Good – but you’re a couple years late,” he told the magazine during the shoot for the popular issue, on sale this week. “I hit my peak a few years ago. I’m on the decline now, so.... I’m not sure that I still deserve it, but thank you.”
Oh, you deserve it, dude.
But don’t feel bad for Pratt, though. The Guardians of the Galaxy star also was singled out by People for the brand o’ sexy he has been bringing, especially this year, and will continue to provide to the world for many years to come.
Ditto Fifty Shades of Grey star Jamie Dornan. Ki Hong Lee, from The Maze Runner. Matt Bomer. And Michael Strahan.

That Sarong Is So Good, Matt Bomer!
Thank goodness Magic Mike XXL is happening.
And, yeah, thank goodness the paparazzi are all over the production, like white on rice, getting us thehorny public some nice-to-look-at shots of the boys hard at work.
Like this one of Matt Bomer, rocking a dangerously low sarong like nobody’s business on location on Tybee Island, Ga. Or this one of Joe Manganiello, all shirtless and six-pack-y and whatnot.
It’s a good thing, huh.

Going Nice
Methinks that Matt Bomer has the right idea.
Last month, the actor was assumed a sure thing at the Emmys for his supporting turn on HBO’s The Normal Heart, right. Except – everyone was reminded of what they say about assuming, and the Emmy went to Martin Freeman for his work on the third outing of the PBS cult hit Sherlock.
So how do you show ’em up if you’re a surprise-denied TV-movie star?
By delivering a surprise of your own and announcing that you are making a real movie (you know what I mean...) next. With Ryan Gosling, no less.
Boom.
Indeed, Bomer has signed on to join the DILF of the Year and Russell Crowe in The Nice Guys.

To be directed by Shane Black (Iron Man 3), the 1970s-set film will feature RyGos as a detective hired by a gangster (a role to be played by Crowe now; he was previously said to set to be portraying another detective) to find a missing girl, thus uncovering a dangerous conspiracy. Enter the character that the White Collar hottie has been tapped to take.
Mmm...Gosling and Bomer together on screen. Loins – and multiplexes – are gonna melt.

Bomer the Freak
I think it’s safe to state that Matt Bomer must pray at the altar of Ryan Murphy, which is why the actor’s gonna do unto FX’s American Horror Story franchise as he once did unto TV’s Glee.
Meaning he’s going to guest on the upcoming American Horror Story: Freak Show.
Indeed, the Normal Heart scene-stealer – who is poised to pick up his first Emmy tomorrow (in no small measure thanks to, whaddya know, Murphy’s direction) for his work on the celebrated HBO film – has landed a guesting part on the anthology series. Murphy himself confirmed the casting news at a pre-Emmy party this weekend.
Bomer, the director said, gets, “First right of refusal” for anything he’s working on.
Good! That’s the way it should be. ’Cause the more Bomer we get, the better.
American Horror Story: Freak Show will premiere on Oct. 8. The actor is set to be part of only one episode, though – but there’s always next season....
Photo: JustJared.com.
Update: Whoa! Matt Bomer did not win that Emmy we all thought he was sure to win on Aug. 25.
Like...whoa.

Groovity
Space Station 76, the offbeat retro-futuristic movie that at long last puts Matt Bomer and Patrick Wilson on screen together (alas, not together – wink, wink) is finally ready to be seen.
Directed by Jack Plotnick (he played the evil mayor’s gofer during the third season of TV’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer), the movie is a decidedly independent comedic drama about the denizens of Omega 76, an oh-so-groovy space station.
Wilson – who has to drop out of the long-gestating Ant-Man because of a scheduling conflict – plays the station’s captain, a man’s man who likes to drink...and can’t quite get a handle on his new second-in-command being a woman (Liv Tyler), while Bomer plays an obviously handsome man with a mechanical (ish...talk about retro!) hand who becomes a third of a love triangle involving the station’s bustiest of blondes and the new raven-haired arrival.

Just a Normal Win
Yeah, that Emmy we all expect him to get nominated for next month is Matt Bomer’s to lose.
The actor picked up a Critics’ Choice TV Award yesterday, for his stunning – and buzzy – supporting performance on HBO’s The Normal Heart.
Right on.
And woo-woos for everyone!

Sounds Like Ken Will Strip Again
So Normal Heart standout Matt Bomer was on Ellen earlier this week and, of course, the talk quickly moved on from his buzzed-for-an-Emmy work on the must-watch HBO film to...Magic Mike XXL, the similarly must-y upcoming sequel to, Magic Mike, Channing Tatum’s crowd-pleasing 2012 panty-dropper blockbuster.
Which Bomer all but confirmed, without a crotch shadow of a doubt, that he will be a part of!
Further, Bomer even revealed to Ellen DeGeneres that the July 2015 follow-up will be “a road-trip film that leads to a stripper convention,” thus confirming that which evidently Tatum himself had recently shared with GQ about the project.
Sounds like good, rowdy fun.
And like, perhaps, his Ken character will have more to do, say, and strip for, please dear God?
