McGregor will play Henry, the unhappy-in-love playwright whose real-life romantic woes mirror the ones in his play about a marriage on the brink of collapse. That the production within the production stars his wife only adds more complication to matters, which already include his affair with Annie (Gyllenhaal).
This will mark the actress’ Great White Way debut, although she is no stranger to the New York boards, having hit them a few years ago for an Off-Broadway staging of Chekov’s Three Sisters. She was going to lead The Village Bike this spring…but not anymore.
