Banned in the USA

Director Kevin Smith has a new movie titled Zack and Miri Make a Porno opening on Oct. 31.

While perhaps you might see the movie, what you surely will not see is the poster at right, which will be officially unveiled at the movie’s world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival this month – and only available to view in Canada.

Even after winning an appeal to overturn Zack and Miri Make a Porno‘s dreaded NC-17 rating, Smith says the Motion Picture Association of America won’t sign off on the one-sheet being shown stateside.

“When you’ve got the word ‘porno’ in the title, naturally, the marketing materials are gonna be scrutinized more closely by the MPAA,” Smith said. “I understand they’ve got a job to do, but c’mon...this image isn’t that dirty; [stars Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks]’re both fully clad.”

I guess Canada doesn’t have that many hang-ups, huh.

“I’ve always loved Canada and Canadians for giving us hockey,” the director added. “Now, I love ’em just a little bit more. For allowing tufts of hair.”
