Reese the Soldier

She may be about to get silly with Hot Pursuit, but Reese Witherspoon knows that if she wants a third Oscar nomination she best keep at the serious stuff, too.

Which is why her production company is optioning Gayle Tzemach Lemmon’s upcoming Ashley’s War: The Untold Story of a Team of Women Soldiers on the Special Ops Battlefield.

The book tells the story of the creation of the U.S. Army Special Operations Command of a pilot program that allowed elite women soldiers on the battlefield with Green Berets and Army Rangers in Afghanistan in 2010. Ashley White was a 1st lieutenant and the first member of squad to be killed in action.

Witherspoon, I presume, will play her in the film.
