I just knew director Todd Phillips couldn’t let the events of the promised-to-be-epic-but-wa’n’t The Hangover Part II be the swan song of his series of unfortunate events-happy trio, so here comes The Hangover Part III.

Which looks way bigger in scope – it looks like Phil, Stu, and Alan will be jet-setting it this time and thus taking their brand of mayhem to more than one location – and in stakes.

Also, richer and taller with the animal cruelty (giraffes are the new monkeys?).

Plus, it features Melissa McCarthy.

So like, totally promising – because of the latter point, of course.

See ya on Memorial Day, guys.

That Jason Ritter has all the luck.

First, the actor got to romance Lauren friggin’ Graham for years on TV’s Parenthood, and, now, the guy’s gonna get to do the same with her Gilmore Girls daughter, Alexis Bledel.

Awkward!

And, indeed, the blue-eyed beauty has been cast as Ritter’s love interest on the potential new fall Fox comedy Friends & Family, which will see them romance each other through a series of modern-day trials and tribulations surrounded by a motley crew of friends and family.

With her new film, Sofia Coppola tells the the real-life story about the real-life fame whores who real-life robbed the homes of actual fame whores like Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton back in 2008-2009.

Case in point: Their latest cover story, on HBO’s much-anticipated Steven Soderbergh-directed, maybe-“too gay” Liberace film Behind the Candelabra, starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon.

There’s Something About Sofia

Sofia Vergara’s reign as Hollywood’s It Chica Caliente is steaming ahead.

The Colombian bombshell has a key role as fiery Desdemona in Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming Machete Kills, as you can see at right, and she’s negotiating a part opposite Jason Statham in a forthcoming remake of Burt Reynolds’ 1986 film Heat.

Vergara would play a woman who calls upon a friend, a former gambler-cum-Vegas bodyguard, for help after she is attacked by the mob.

Simon West (Con Air) is set to direct.

It’s the end of yet another era for one of TV’s veteran talk shows: Joy Behar is leaving The View.

So what, who cares? Plenty of people, I’m sure. Next to chatfest co-mastermind Barbara Walters, Behar was the one original member left on the panel. But with her contract ending in August, she was looking forward to finally moving on.

“It seemed like the right time,” said the comedian, adding that she is excited to focus and refocus on other projects, like a play she’s been writing and her stand-up comedy work.

The Good Headmaster

The man o.k.a. Abu Nazir is making a play for the big screen.

And I think Carrie Mathison would be cool with that.
Homeland baddie Navid Negahban has been tapped to join Clive Owen and Juliette Binoche in the dram-com Words and Pictures.

The Irani actor will play the headmaster at the New England prep school where Owen and Binoche’s characters work and fall for each other.

Juliette Binoche, in a crass American blockbuster?

It could be happenin’.

The French beauty is in talks to join potential co-stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Bryan Cranston in the 2014 reboot of Godzilla.

The powers that be are still working on a script so all these talented folks say OK, that they’re in – Frank Darabont, who is in charge of the rewrite of the original story on the table, has gone on the record saying he doesn’t want the movie to be “camp” but rather a “terrifying force of nature.”

It’s a mighty fine line to walk, and I think having Binoche on board would give the darn thing a classy level of respectability, in a way.

If anything, she could make sure Godzilla be scary while also very, very beautiful (thanks to some Lancôme).

The Abducted’s Mother

Hope you’ve missed Gillian Anderson – ’cause you gon’ be seeing a lot of her in 2013.

The cult fave already has a guesting part on NBC’s upcoming serial killer thriller Hannibal, and now comes word that she has booked a Peacock pilot.

Anderson has joined the cast of an untitled project revolving around a massive kidnapping, playing the mother of one of the victims.

Mmm...I wonder if the powers that be will have her go all Taken on the bad guys.

Enrolling Vamp

The young-adult adaptation craze is far from over.

Up next is Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters, for which Zoey Deutch (TV’s Ringer) has been cast as the lead, a half-human girl named Rose who has a mental and spiritual bond with her vampire-princess BFF, Lissa.

The conflict comes when the two, both students at a special school for vampires struggling to retain some of their humanity whiles others become more and more feral.

Mark Waters (Mean Girls) is directing the movie this summer.

Mr. Harry Potter himself is looking to enter the realm of the super once again.

Just like Emma Watson.

Daniel Radcliffe is thisclose to inking a deal to star in a new version of Frankenstein written for the big screen by Chronicle scribe Max Landis.

Landis is working on a story that would be told from the point of view of the good doctor’s hunchbacked lab assistant, Igor, whom Radcliffe would portray.

Those Hogwarts alumni sure don’t want to be strangers to the genre that made them famous, huh. Which is a good, smart thing.

A New, Sexy Kind of Robocop

So J.J. Abrams has yet another show in the works – and he wants that gorgeous man Michael Ealy to be his star.

Ealy, who most recently was seen on the little-seen USA Network show Common Law, has nabbed the part of a quite-humanly atuned android policeman at the center of a potential and untitled new Fox show.

J.H. Wyman (TV’s Fringe) thought up the concept for the show, which will be set in a near-future L.A. where human cops are paired up with robocops.

Raise your hand if you want the guy to arrest you good.

Intouchables star Omar Sy is gonna play with mutants

The French actor has joined the cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past and will be playing...mmm...I dunno. That detail has not been released.

Same thing with Peter Dinklage (HBO’s Games of Thrones).

Anyway, they both will be playing along with James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, and Ellen Page.

Production’s set to start next month so that the movie can come out next summer.

The erstwhile Hermione Granger is in talks to join Cate Blanchett in Disney’s forthcoming live-action version of Cinderella.

Thor director Kenneth Branagh is set to helm, with production tentatively set for this fall for a 2014 release.

Guess the girl just likes it better when theres a little magic in her life.

The Desperate Weekender

Marion Cotillard is gonna be put through the ringer for her next film.

The Oscar-winning actress is set to star in Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne’s (The Kid with a Bike) Deux Jours, Une Nuit, a drama about a woman who, when faced with unemployment, spends an entire weekend trying to talk her co-workers into giving up their bonuses so she can be kept on the job.

I cannot imagine what some of those people will want in return for the favor....

Cameras will roll in Belgium this summer, which means Cotillard will probably be part of the awards dance once more next year (she partook in it just this past season thanks to Rust and Bone).

Ryan Murphy’s forthcoming adaptation of The Normal Heart for HBO Films just got one hechuva lot hotter.

And it already has Matt Bomer on board!

Savages’ Taylor Kitsch is joining Bomer and Julia Roberts and Mark Ruffalo, to play a closeted banker who becomes a prominent AIDS activist.

Jim Parsons (TV’s The Big Bang Theory) also has come on board the project. He’ll be reprising his gay activist character from the 2011 Tony-winning Broadway revival.

I know this may not be germane to plot, but, if at all possible, could Murphy include a shirtless scene or two (of Bomer and definitely of Kitsch)?

Could he? Like, I’m really asking....

M’s Getting GLAAD for the Coop

Madonna is going to the GLAAD Media Awards in New York City on March 16.

Mmm...I wonder if she needs a date....

Not that she needs one.

Anyway, M is attending the 24th annual event to present Anderson Cooper with the Vito Russo Award in recognition of his work on behalf of equality for all.

It’s been kind of a while since the Queen of Pop has attended such an obviously gay gathering (her own concert don’t count!), but she has long been a strong supporter of the gay community.

“From speaking out against bullying to raising support for marriage equality, Madonna has always been one of our community’s strongest allies,” said GLAAD’s president, Herndon Graddick. “We are honored to have her stand [with us] and Anderson Cooper.

I second that, and add that it’s good to see her actively involved once again.

Dunno, but I am looking forward to finding out when What Maisie Knew – the adaptation of the 1897 Henry James story about a young girl shipped back and forth every six months between her divorced parents’ places starring Julianne Moore, Steve Coogan, and Alexander Skarsgård – comes out...soon.

The film has been updated to the modern era and comes to us from the producers of The Kids Are All Right, so I absolutely expect it to net Moore another Academy Award nomination, and, with luck, her first win, already.

There’s an up-and-comer out there who just got a big break.

British actor Douglas Booth (whom some of you may know from the little-seen Miley Cyrus vehicle LOL) has booked a part in the Wachowski siblings’ forthcoming sci-fi adventure Jupiter Ascending, f.k.a. Jupiter Rising.

Don’t know who he’ll be playing, but he will be doing so opposite Channing Tatum, Mila Kunis, and Eddie Redmayne....

Up next for Booth, though, is playing Romeo to Hailee Steinfeld’s Juliet in Carlo Carlei’s adaptation of the classic love story.

Not Happy with the PR Supreme Court

So the Puerto Rican Constitutional Court decided, 5-4 last month, to deny second patent adoption rights for a woman seeking to strengthen her partner’s parenting protections, right.

And you know who’s like, pissed about it...like really, really pissed and saddened by this decision?

Ricky Martin.

The now-out-and-partnered father of two tweeted his disappointment saying, “So sad, I see this as turning our backs on childhood. So many orphans who want the warmth of 1 home.”

Martin followed up on the sentiment with a second tweet through which he implored “the Supreme Court of #PuertoRico reconsider this decision for the sake of the girl.”

Heres to hoping. And to a world in which equality rules and our leaders can recognize the value of every family.

Jessica Alba is looking to do her part to keep with Hollywood’s tradition of hot girls playing hot characters with improbable jobs.

The Sin City starlet is eyeing a part in Weightless, the story of an astronaut who causes a fatal motorcycle accident and then flees the scene so paperwork and stuff doesn’t cost her her place on an upcoming space shuttle flight.
