Ladies with Secrets

They’re finally coming up next.

I’m talking about Academy Award winners Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman and Golden Globe nominee Shailene Woodley, the three actresses HBO trusted to tell Big Little Lies for them.

The seven-episode project, of course...as you probably already know...is an adaptation of the Liane Moriarty comic novel that David E. Kelley worked on for Jean-Marc Vallée (Wild) to direct. It’s a limited – duh – series that also counts Alexander Skarsgård, Laura Dern, Adam Scott, and Zoë Kravitz among its leading ladies’ co-stars (Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman also produced the project), and here is first look at the gorgeously shot proposition:

Big Little Lies is scheduled to premiere next year. A set date is TBC.

Abs for Days

They are really relying on at least six good reasons to sell us The Legend of Tarzan, huh.

I mean, sure, there are far worse things around which to build a marketing campaign for a major summer tentpole. And Alexander Skarsgård’s six-pack eight-pack wasn’t just the obvious way to go. It was the only way to go.

The Skars-bod, when combined with that Skars-gaze, well...it could heal the world.

Guess we’ll find out whether it does on July 1.

Here Swings the Legendary Ape Man

A second, way-more-abstastic preview for Alexander Skarsgård’s summer tentpole, The Legend of Tarzan, is now available.

So without further ado...check it out:

The Legend of Tarzan – directed by David Yates and co-starring The Big Short’s Margot Robbie, SPECTRE’s Christoph Waltz, Blood Diamond’s Djimon Hounsou, and the one and only Samuel L. Jackson – will swing into theaters on July 1.

The Husband with the Skars-gaze

Nicole Kidman’s husband’s a hottie.

And, no, I ain’t talkin’ about Keith Urban. Although he OK, OK.

Legend of Tarzan star Alexander Skarsgård is revisiting HBO, the home of his eye-catching True Blood, to play the Oscar winner’s husband on Big Little Lies. The David E. Kelley-led eight-ep TV adaptation of the Liane Moriarty comic novel will center on three mothers of kindergartners whose seemingly perfect lives mask a desperation that will even lead them to murder.

Reese Witherspoon and Shailene Woodley will portray the other two desperate housewives.

Zoë Kravitz, Adam Scott, James Tupper (TV’s Revenge), and Laura Dern are also on board.

You know the Skars-gaze is totally gonna steal the show.

Holy Tarzan!

Nominations for the 2016 Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced bright and early this morning – but who cares.

We finally have us a first look-see at Alexander Skarsgård as Tarzan!

And he. Looks. So the part. So if you wanna swing from that vine, too...the line starts right here.

Harry Potter man David Yates is at the helm of the new adaptation of Edgar Rice Burrough’s story about that famed man of the apes. Officially titled The Legend of Tarzan, the movie will co-star Margot RobbieChristoph Waltz, Djimon Hounsou, and Samuel L. Jackson, and arrive in theaters on July 1.

No Words, All Intensity

And then Tarzan then?

Alexander Skarsgård is going Mute for one of his next projects, an indie-sounding Duncan Jones film set in Berlin 40 years into the future co-starring Paul Rudd about a mute bartender who faces against the city’s gangsters in order to solve his partner’s disappearance.

No, Rudd isn’t playing the partner but a recurring character that Skarsgård’s character will encounter in his search for her, whose intentions he will have a hard time reading.

A Most Draglicious Skarsgård

Now this is how you draw attention to your little indie.

Alexander Skarsgård pulled all the stops when it came to the draglicious outfit he wore to join his co-star Bel Powley and their writer-director Marielle Heller at the premiere of The Diary of a Teenage Girl in San Francisco last night.

Wait. The premiere was in San Francisco – and I did not know about it?!

Yeah, Imma be bummed out all day about that one.

Oh, well. Look at that Skars-gaze, though.

Just when you thought you had seen it all with this guy....

Growing Up Girl

So this year’s Sundance Film Festival didn’t just yield one must-see summer indie (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl).

It brought about three.

The Diary of a Teenage Girl is one of the other two.

The film is a coming-of-age story helmed by actress-writer-director Marielle Heller and starring on-the-brink British actress Bel Powley, a San Francisco teen living and learning in the 1970s, that was based on the 2002 graphic novel by Phoebe Gloeckner. And the thick of the story revolves around Minnie losing her virginity to her young mother’s (Kristen Wiig) bf, hotly portrayed by Alexander Skarsgård.

Lucky gal.

The Diary of a Teenage Girl will be out on Aug. 7. Check out the trailer for the surrealistic offering now.

Let’s Get So Conscious

Long before we knew about The Hunger Games, and even longer before we learned that a person could be Divergent, there was The Giver.

Written by virtual original young-adult future-dystopia novelist Lois Lowry  back in 93, The Giver – a pet project of Jeff Bridges’ – arrived on the silver screen last month. Sterilely helmed by Phillip Noyce, the movie floundered at the box office, unable to connect to the material’s big ideas, evidently, and, worse, with audiences (so far, Americans have helped it recoup its admittedly, obviously modest $25 million budget by less than double as much).

This in spite of it starring the world’s favorite Dude, Bridges, Meryl friggin Streep, and Brenton Thwaites.

The hot PYAussieT plays Jonas, a young man (an underserved Alexander Skarsgård and a slightly less so Katie Holmes portray his parents) living in a seemingly ideal post-war community (the year, I understand, is 2048). We meet the curious boy on the eve of his 18th birthday (the character’s 11 in the book), a.k.a. the time in which he is picked by his elders to become his community’s new Receiver of Memory.

Bridges plays the Giver, the lone and lonely man with all the world’s answers that those in power (primarily Streep’s grey streak-haired Chief Elder) turn to when they need counsel. This, y see, because Jonas & Co. exist in a society that fears freedom. The exacting rules under which they live forego historical tradition and knowledge, value a so-called precision of speech that contributes to order, and essentially eschew the feeling of feelings (i.e., emotions).

Free will has been eliminated so as not to give people the option of choosing wrong for themselves or for the community. Heck, even the weather is perfectly calibrated, nurtured where folks aren’t so as to ensure to ensure abundance for all.

How? We are never told.

The result is a grey microcosm in which everyone does as told, none the wiser of the incredibly high cost of this...peace – or of the larger world that may still be out there.

Except for Jonas, of course. Even before getting is assignment, he had already begun to see hints of life’s colors and, thus, the possibility of the more long negated to him, his family, and friends, which include – natch – a girl named Fiona (Odeya Rush). Now that hes the next Receiver, hes becoming increasingly determined to buck convention and to access that more about which he has been learning.

This makes him dangerous and a threat that the Chief Elder will not tolerate. Jonas must be lost and sent to the Elsewhere. Meaning, he’s gotta be taken care...put down. Killed.

Why Gabriel – this little baby that, its noted, one day could become Receiver, too (Jonas has bonded with him) – must be as well isn’t like, totally clear, and neither is just how much does that the Streep character know about things.

The more flagrant of faults? Why Noyce chose to end a movie that was elegantly turning into a nice thriller for a younger generation with every informational download that Jonas got (seeing how the consequences of his subsequent acts of defiance built was in’erestin fun...) with a boring third act in which suspense gave sorry way to obligatory adventure and action of the lamest order.

That was not fun. Or good.

My Rating **

What Would You Know?

Meryl Streep says in the trailer for the Jeff Bridges pet project The Giver that, “When people have the ability to choose, they choose wrong.

Which should clue ya in right then and there as to what kind of character the celebrated actress is playing in the dystopian-future fantasy based on the 1993 Lois Lowry classic.

Why don’t you acquaint yourself with the preview and then tweet me @moviemartin if you think you’ll wanna see it.

Don’t make me make that choice for you now:

The Giver – featuring Brenton Thwaites as the Receiver of Memory (GTS), Katie Holmes, Alexander Skarsgård, and Taylor Swift – arrives in theaters on Aug. 15.

Now That’s How You Make Toilets Sexy

Hey, remember how last summer we were finally treated to a full-on, if brief, shot of the Skars-cock on HBO’s True Blood?

Well, its owner, Alexander Skarsgård, will not have us forgetting about it.

Which is why he musta taken this pic while he was down in the South Pole (with Prince Harry!) just last month, participating in the Wounded’s South Pole Allied Challenge as the celebrity patron of Team America.

I never wanna see anyone sitting on the toilet – ever.

But, man, for a dude like Skarsgård, one can and will make an exception.

A Different Kind of Global Warming

O.

M.

G.

Both Prince Harry (rocking a loverly beardand Alexander Skarsgård were just down in the South Pole?!

I mean, I knew, the man with the Skars-gaze (look at it!) was participating in the Wounded’s South Pole Allied Challenge as the celebrity patron of Team America – but I don’t think I’d allowed my brain to imagine the two would meet, let alone be photographed together (as they were earlier this week).

These two together should not be allowed, let alone down in friggin’ Antartica!

The Skarsgård Video Star

I suddenly find myself a huge fan of Australian electro band Cut Copy.

I feel like, if they went ahead and supported my Alexander Skarsgård obsession by casting my favorite Swede and his insane torso situation in the video for their Free Your Mind” (which has him rocking the vintage Eric hair and running around some field in his tighty whities), I can totally support their music and tell you that they are kicking off a tour in North Carolina at the end of October.

I honestly cannot wait to see more.

I mean, hear more.

Although, yeah...I would see more. I kinda dig how the video casts Skarsgård in a role reminiscent of his recent turn as the leader of a cult-y collective of anarchists in The East.

Oof...and then dude Skars-barks.

Swoon.

Coming Home to Bon Temps for the End

The fantastic (mis)adventures of Sookie Stackhouse are coming to an end.

HBO has announced that next year shall bring forth the very last season of its addictive-as-V True Blood.

Better to leave the party while (some) people still like ya!

And does the news come not a moment too soon or what. Even by its supernatural standards, the show had begun to appear a bit long in the fang thanks to a sprawling cast in need of servicing and their meandering storylines, although the recent sixth season ended on what I believe was a nice return to form.

Season 7, indeed, promises to bring it all home to Bon Temps for Sookie (Anna Paquin) & Co.

We will find out if she and the H-O-T werewolf Alcide (Joe Manganiello) will go the distance or if she and noble-vampire-turned-godly-a--hole Bill (Stephen Moyer) will find a way back to each other, all against the backdrop of the drama the so-called-by-me coming-to-town zombie vampers will provide.

More importantly, though, we will find that Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) is still very much alive and that he, more than anyone, will have a happily ever after.

At least thats what I want.

The final 10-episode season of True Blood will premiere next summer, quite possibly in June, per tradition.

Behold the Skars-cock

He’s the man with the Skars-gaze that kills, and now Alexander Skarsgård has unleashed his Skars-cock on the world.

Oh yeah – Blatant Objectifying Alert! (With spoilers.)

After six seasons of teasing us with various shots of his fantastic naked body on HBO’s True Blood, the (H-O-T) Swede finally gave us a peek at his family jewels thanks to some glorious full frontal on the show’s season finale last night, which saw his Eric Northman, running on godly blood, seemingly burn to a crisp somewhere on a snowy mountain.

But did our favorite bad-boy fanger ever really meet the True Death?

I don’t think so, son.

If memory serves, Bill (Stephen Moyer) met the sun once, and Sookie (Anna Paquin) saved him and nursed him back to unlife. Last we saw Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten), she was leaving Tara’s (Rutina Wesley) side at Merlotte’s Bellefleur’s to go find her maker. Surely as soon as she feels the heat turning on Eric she will rush to his side and burn with him. Or, more than likely, save him somehow.

I refuse to believe Eric is gone, y’ see, more than anything because I can’t believe Skarsgård is done with True Blood. It would, indeed, be quite a way for him to go, but I just don’t think the character is done wreaking his own brand of havoc on Bon Temps.

By Lillith he cannot be!

#truebloods7 cannot get here soon enough with answers to this and the finales other big question (the one regarding the arrival of what I have dubbed the zombie vampers).

Update: In case you needed the confirmation, Alexander Skarsgård will be back on the show next season.

:)!

Mmm...Si, Alex – Give It

That Swede with the Skars-gaze I heart so hard much, Alexander Skarsgård, is looking to play (in) The Giver.

The actor is deep in discussion with the powers that be about joining Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep in the Philip Noyce-directed dystopian fantasy about a future in which society fears freedom and all trace of human history has been erased, emotions aren’t a thing, and citizens’ paths are pre-chosen for ’em.

Lazy cows.

Skarsgård – whose What Maisie Knew I’ll be watching this weekend – would play the father of Jonas (Brenton Thwaites), a boy known in his community as the Receiver of Memories and the catalyst for a revolution.

Production on The Giver is set to kick off in South Africa this fall.

Sing to Me, Skarsgård!

Oof.

So Alexander Skarsgård recently sat down with Peter Travers to talk up his latest movie, Disconnect (I have to catch it before I head back to Peru!), and, by golly, was the True Blood hunk in the mood to be a ham.

Not happy with just sitting there looking pretty, giving major Skars-gaze, the actor decided to burst into song – singing a football anthem in his native Swedish.

I. Am. Molten.

Boy, you can sing to me any time you want. Just F to the Y to the I.

Up next for Skarsgård is the indie spying-on-anarchists thriller The East, which will begin unspooling at the end of May.

The Skars-gaze Takes On the World

I guess it’s true: so many magazine, so little time.

Found out about Neux this week, thanks to Trevor Donovan, and now here’s Man of the World, which has put a scruffy Alexander Skarsgård and his Skars-gaze on the cover of its third issue.

Man of the World is like, a lifestyle handbook for me, and that also features culture and fashion and, of course, other men of the world.

The issue with Skarsgård on the cover is on pre-sale now through April 1 for $16.

I want him it!

He Makes Anarchy Such a Hot Prospect

Raise your hand if you’d become an anarchist only if Alexander Skarsgård was to lead you down the rabbit hole.

;)

In the new hit indie The East, Ellen Page and Skarsgård play the leaders of an eco-anarchist group that is infiltrated by an FBI-trained corporate spy (Another Earth’s Brit Marling, who co-wrote the film).

The story centers on the group’s actions and explores how its leaders’ charisma – cue up that Skars-gaze! – can begin to shift even the seemingly unshakeable belief system of the investigator.

The intense-looking The East arrives in theaters on May 31.
