Oh, Robert

In spite of whatever Brooke Shields says, her yummy co-star Robert Buckley confirmed it to me at the grand opening of the Fontainebleau Miami Beach that Lipstick Jungle has been cancelled – you’re just going to have to take my word for it.

Today, though, this clip made its way to the Web as a rather cheap ploy to promote the show:

Someone let the NBC dramedy die with some dignity, already.

But save Pushing Daisies. And Eli Stone. And Dirty Sexy Money!

The Creek: A Cradle for Lawyers

Katie Holmes isn’t the only Dawson’s Creek alumni to sing and dance her way over to ABC’s Eli Stone.

Kerr Smith, who played Jack, the Creek’s resident gay fella, will appear on the legal “dramedyusical” in its second season (premiering on Oct. 14), playing a hardcore legal eagle.

Both Dawson’s Creek and Eli Stone were and are executive-produced by Greg Berlanti.

And today’s lesson is: If you ever exec-produce anything, you have to make sure to keep friends with all your talent. After all, you may need them to pop into your new projects later on.

The Girl on TV Back on TV

Before heads to Broadway, Katie Holmes is headed to Eli Stone’s San Francisco.

The actress – she’s an actress, remember? – has signed on to appear in one episode of Season 2 of the critically acclaimed ABC drama.

The gig marks a reunion between Holmes and her former Dawson’s Creek boss, Eli Stone executive producer Greg Berlanti.

I don’t what role the erstwhile Joey Potter will be playing, but I do know this: I’ll be watching.

Update 1:
The Kat half of TomKat will play a non-profit attorney, with really sassy hair, whose mysterious case leads her to lawyer/prophet Eli Stone (Jonny Lee Miller).

Update 2:
ABC boss Stephen McPherson has revealed Holmes does some “singing and dancing” on the show.

Plan for Fall

Eli Stone – my writers-strike-induced TV addiction – has been renewed for a second season.

Well, color me happy…and stay within the edges please.

You simply must catch up on this gem of a show online or get the DVDs ASAP.

Update 1: Click here to find out what will be coming back and what will be new at Eli Stone’s home, ABC, come fall.

Update 2: Do you want to know what CBS is expected to have on its schedule for the new TV season?

Update: 3: It might be time to catch up on Reaper, after all. The CW has renewed it and Gossip Girl – yay! – for a sophomore run.

Update 4: Fox has announced its schedule for fall…and it’s making mentally re-arrange my own.

Getting Stone-d

I spent the better part of yesterday catching up with TiVo, getting to know Eli Stone.

Question: How is it that this show isn’t more popular?

I was hooked after watching the pilot. Nine episodes later, I’m completely addicted. (I’ve got two more in queue – and I cannot wait to watch’em).

This first season is good.

Co-created by Greg Berlanti (TV’s Everwood, Brothers & Sisters), Eli Stone’s so far a cohesive mid-season replacement that had better be back in the fall.

The show stars Jonny Lee Miller in the titular role of a San Francisco lawyer who starts getting visions that inform the cases he should take. But are the visions the possible effect of a recently discovered brain aneurysm…or are they a higher calling?

It co-stars a never-better Natasha Henstridge (oh, how far she’s come since Species!), Loretta Devine (a hoot and a half!), the very handsome and appealing Sam Jaeger and Matt Letscher, and Victor Garber (welcome back on the tube, Spy Daddy!).

And did I mention Eli Stone succeeds where Viva Laughlin failed so miserably?

Sometimes, when Eli gets a vision, the people around him break into song and dance, often to George Michael’s repertoire (the singer already has appeared on the show, in completely integrated and effective story lines). It’s a touch of whimsy that totally works.

Yeah – I’m in it now.... I mean, just look at Miller (pictured at right). McDreamy who?
